The US supreme court ruled that Guantanamo Bay is illegal. I could have told you this 4 years ago. Finally somebody with some sense. I have been mortified by what’s going on there for years now. The Economist writes:
IN A painful blow for George Bush, the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday June 29th that he did not have the authority to set up special military commissions to try foreign terrorist suspects held at Guantánamo Bay. The court also ruled that the tribunals themselves were illegal under both international and American military-justice law. And, as important, the court held that the Geneva Conventions do apply to the conflict against al-Qaeda and that all detainees must therefore be treated humanely “in all circumstances”.
George Bush obviously has an “end justifies the means” policy. However this was also the policy of the Nazis. It does our society no good to break fundamental American values, such as the right to trial by jury.

I have been sick for 3 days now. Nothing too bad bad. I think it may stem from quitting smoking. My dad bought me 7 boxes of Nicorette from the States.
My dad leaves tomorrow. Today we’re going to go to the Chinese gardens and then take him to our special Spaish restaurant, where we had our first date and our wedding dinner.
We were going to go Coreggidor island today but I’m still a tad sick and also Vanessa is a bit too pregnant for hiking around. She gets really tied and needs to nap a lot. I do too since I have a phantom pregnancy.
We went to the hospital yesterday and Little Chris is in good shape for his birth in 3 months, his head is down like it should be, and the placenta is on top, and he’s not too big. The doctor was shocked by the size of his penis. I couldn’t be prouder.
Nanay is going to make my dad pasalubong (travel gifts) tomorrow–coconut macaroons.
